Fan Coil Units Selection and Configuration Guide
When selecting fan coil units, we usually determine the capacity based on empirical rules. This mainly ensures the unit meets the rated heating capacity. For energy-saving residential buildings, we typically adopt a minimum design value of 200-300W per square meter. This value varies based on the region and building type, so we adjust it based on experience. We select the capacity to balance equipment economy and meet user needs. We avoid selecting a capacity that’s too small, which could lead to poor results. To improve system efficiency, we also focus on selecting terminal equipment and delivery ducts. Many fan coil units include return air boxes as standard to optimize air circulation and system performance.

Is it necessary to choose ultra-thin fan coil units and DC brushless fan coil units?
HVAC design pursues comfort, energy saving and health to meet the needs of users to improve their quality of life. For high-rise apartments, especially for two-generation units with a floor height of no more than 280cm, the floor heating system has raised the floor by about 8cm. Owners are usually very concerned about the height of the ceiling. The use of ultra-thin fan coils can reduce the thickness of the ceiling by 3-4cm, making the solution more acceptable.

DC brushless fan coils have low noise (noise can be as low as 20dB at low wind speed), large air volume adjustment range (low wind can be adjusted to about 30% of the full air volume, while AC fan coils can only be adjusted to 50%), and low motor power (the minimum wind speed is only 5W). When installing a DC brushless fan coil in the bedroom, the temperature control panel will not repeatedly attract the relay, and the fan coil will not start and stop frequently, ensuring that the night rest is not disturbed by noise and saving energy at the same time. For owners with sufficient budget, DC brushless fan coils are a good choice.
How to choose a fan coil unit with a lifting water pump?
The condensate pipe of a natural drainage fan coil must be strictly sloped. This requires sacrificing part of the ceiling height. However, the risk of condensate overflow is small. A fan coil with a lifting water pump is necessary in areas with limited ceiling height and no condensate drainage point in the basement. If the lifting water pump or water level sensor fails, condensate may overflow, and a water absorption sound may occur. In home decoration HVAC companies, one faction refuses to choose a natural drainage fan coil, while another refuses to choose one with a lifting water pump. In fact, you should consider both ceiling height and drainage point conditions when making a choice.
How to choose the valve for fan coil unit?
There are three functions of the valve on the fan coil unit:
- Install the actuator to be controlled by the room thermostat;
- Cut off the connection with the pipeline for maintenance and replacement;
- Adjust the water flow for precise regulation. Problems that may arise if the valve is not selected well include:
1) Noise is generated when the actuator is switched; 2) Poor water flow regulation ability.
Therefore, it is recommended that the valve with the actuator should use a linear switch valve, the actuator should use an electric heating actuator; and the regulating valve should use a gate valve.
Why do we need to make a soft connection for the fan disk?
The fan disk uses the fan of the fan to push the air to exchange heat with the coil in the form of forced convection for cooling and heating. The fan usually has three different wind speeds or more speeds. The ceiling or pipes in contact with the fan disk may cause the fan disk motor to resonate at different frequencies and generate noise. In order to avoid this phenomenon, the air outlet is made of canvas as a soft connection. The corrugation of the inlet and return pipe of the fan disk is made into a soft connection to isolate vibration.

What are the differences between water fan coil and fluorine indoor fan coil?
Water flows in water fan coil, while fluorine flows in fluorine fan coil (gas-liquid mixture); the fan can also be selected as frequency or variable frequency; the water fan coil can be operated at the lowest speed, while the fluorine fan coil is set at the lowest speed with the minimum evaporation; the water coil can use variable water temperature to control the amount of heat and cold, while the fluorine coil uses variable flow (expansion valve) to control the amount of heat and cold.
